Progress!!!

The FTDNA sale is half over and we have made some real progress. We have gained several new members recently, some members have taken advantage of the Big Y/Free Y-111 one-time only offer (must have a minimum of YSTR-12 either previously tested or currently batched) and many STR upgrades. This is very exciting and I cannot tell you how important your contribution is to our cause. We share many issues with our brick walls and as you are keenly aware many of us bottleneck in Ireland. This is why it is incredibly important to Y-STR test as far out to YSTR-111 as you can. Those subtle mutations in our markers help sort out our cousin lines. The Big Y test gives us more permanent marker values that can be aged to help give us a reasonable time period when our specific cousin branch may have occurred. This is important to help give us the Who, What and Where.

Secondly, I was able to get FTDNA to develop a SNP test for our most recent major subclade, FGC60974, which you can take if you are not able to purchase Big Y at this time. The cost of this test is $39 and will only give you a positive or negative confirmation of this specific SNP. It is important to note that this test will only test for this marker. It will not test for any of the other markers associated with our major clade of BY3320. The hope is, and probably a year or two away, that we will have enough data to put together a panel of our distinctive SNP markers for future Sproul testers to determine which individualized Sproul cousin branch they belong, hopefully yours!! But more deep clade testing (Big Y, FGC 2.1, etc) will need to be done in order to achieve this goal. If you are interested in testing for this SNP to confirm your FGC60974 result please follow the steps following;

1. Log on to your FTDNA profile page

2. Scroll down to your Y-DNA results tabs and select "Haplotree & SNPs"

3. Wait for the tree to load then scroll down to the bottom of the page

4. Click on the hyperlink "advanced SNP order form"

5. Type in FGC60974 into the search box and click "Enter"

6. You will see the SNP discription, click the "Add" hyperlink
7. This will bring you to your check-out page. Order as you would any other product.

You do not need to take this test if you have already Big Y or other deep-clade tested. This marker has already been determined in your results. If you do decide to purchase this test it is still advisable to try and test as many Y-STR markers out to Y-111 in order to get you in the correct cousin branches. The process of grouping involves analyzing each marker mutation that you have from the modal values in your branch. It is impossible to confirm exactly your branch if we don't have all of the markers/mutations to evaluate. Remember the bottleneck!

UK and Irish cousins. This is THE major, major KEY to the success of this group's goal. In order to be successful we must recruit our cousins from the UK and Ireland to join our group and test. Our cousins from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, US, and elsewhere, we are all descendants of immigrants from the UK and Ireland and our goal is to figure out from where and to link back to those early branches from the Plantation period and earlier. Some of us may link directly back to Scotland. But to whom, where and when? This is why we need to get those folks into our group. So I'm shamelessly pleading with anyone who may be collaborating with other Sprouls or are members of online groups or messageboards that give you the ability to invite other Sprouls to join our group. This is essential to our success.

My goal for the next few weeks is to refine our cousin branches with the members we currently have. We are making great progress on this but refinement won't be possible until all results from this current sale are revealed. Some results aren't due until mid-February but hopeful by the end of February we will be as current as possible.
